On January 8, 2024, in Austin, Texas, the Wi-Fi Alliance officially introduced the next generation of Wi-Fi with new features designed to improve performance and connectivity across many environments. Wi-Fi 7's advanced features support higher throughput, more predictable latency, and greater reliability for important traffic.
New use cases—including multi-user AR/VR/XR, immersive 3D training, gaming, industrial IoT, and automotive applications—are expected to benefit from the new generation of Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi 7 also depends on broad cooperation across the Wi-Fi Alliance to ensure worldwide product interoperability and a strong device ecosystem.
Wi-Fi 7 was expected to spread across a large ecosystem, with more than 233 million devices projected to enter the market in 2024 and 2.1 billion devices by 2028. Smartphones, PCs, tablets, and access points (APs) were expected to be among the first products to use Wi-Fi 7, followed by customer-premises equipment (CPE) and AR/VR devices. The Wi-Fi CERTIFIED program is intended to ensure that advanced features are implemented consistently.1
The main features include:
320 MHz channels: Available in countries that allow Wi-Fi operation in the 6 GHz band. These ultra-wide channels double channel width and support higher speeds for multi-gigabit devices and high-throughput applications.
Multi-Link Operation (MLO): Allows compatible devices to transmit and receive data simultaneously over multiple bands—2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz—to increase throughput, reduce latency, and improve reliability.
4K-QAM: Provides a higher transmission rate than 1024-QAM under suitable signal conditions.
512 Compressed Block Acknowledgment: Reduces protocol overhead and can improve data-transfer efficiency, especially in high-performance, low-latency scenarios. Block acknowledgment allows a device to acknowledge a group of received data packets instead of sending a separate ACK for every packet.
Multiple Resource Units (RUs) for one station (STA): Improves spectrum-resource scheduling and spectrum efficiency.
Triggered Uplink Access: Builds on the triggered uplink access defined for Wi-Fi 6 to better handle latency-sensitive traffic and quality-of-service requirements.
Emergency Preparedness Communications Services (EPCS): Provides prioritized communication service while maintaining quality of service in Wi-Fi access networks, especially for national-security and emergency-preparedness use cases.

Many manufacturers, including Xiaomi, ZTE, and Huawei, have released Wi-Fi 7 products. Examples include Xiaomi BE10000 , BE7000 , and BE6500 , as well as the ZTE BE7200 and Huawei BE3 Pro.
Practical note
Wi-Fi 7 features do not automatically guarantee better coverage or real-world speed. The result depends on the router, client device, channel availability, signal quality, local regulations, and whether both ends support features such as MLO and 320 MHz channels.
