7015-2.5G Switch: Five 2.5G Ports and One 10G SFP+ Slot

acwifi.net recently opened a small switch identified as 7015-2.5G. It has five copper 2.5G ports and one 10G SFP+ slot, targeting NAS, homelab, and home networks that need multiple fast ports in a compact enclosure.

External configuration

The switch is under 14 cm long and uses a 12 V/1 A power supply. Measured consumption is about 1.4 W at idle and about 2.9 W with two 2.5G ports connected.¹

The layout contains five 2.5G ports and one 10G SFP+ slot. The SFP+ slot can be used as a high-speed uplink, but actual speed depends on the optical module or DAC cable, the device at the other end, and switch compatibility.

Realtek platform

The main platform uses a Realtek RTL8372N switch chip. The fifth 2.5G port is connected through an RTL8221B PHY. This design explains how the device provides several 2.5G ports in a small enclosure.¹

The flash chip is identified as P25Q40SH with a capacity of 512 KB. Given this small capacity and the source’s description, this is likely a simple switch rather than a device with a full management operating system.

Do not assume it is a managed switch

The teardown describes this as a simple switch based on RTL8372N and RTL8221B. Therefore, do not assume it has VLAN, LACP, QoS, or a management interface like a managed switch.

If you need VLANs for a homelab, check the datasheet, configuration interface, and documentation for the exact model before buying. Five 2.5G ports or a 10G SFP+ slot do not automatically mean that advanced Layer 2 features are available.

Cooling and port protection

The switch has a small heatsink. The teardown does not record an additional thermal pad behind the switching chip, and it mentions no surge-protection circuit for the five 2.5G ports.¹

That does not mean the device is guaranteed to be unstable. However, when it is installed in a hot network cabinet or operated under sustained load, provide good airflow and use a power supply with the correct specifications.

Conclusion

The 7015-2.5G suits users who need several 2.5G ports and one 10G SFP+ uplink in a small enclosure. It is worth considering for a fast home network or homelab, but verify its management features before expecting it to replace a managed switch.
