ZTE BE7200Pro+: what changes when the FEM is replaced

The BE7200Pro+ is notable for its front-end module (FEM) change. It should not be treated as identical to another BE7200 model just because the name is similar; FEM changes can affect radio behavior, heat, and firmware requirements.

What the source records

The ACWiFi article records: ZX279133 dual-core A53; 1GB DDR4; 256MB SPI NAND; RTL8221B; QCN6224; ZZ7517 and ZZ7537 FEM. These are observations from the disassembled sample and the author's test conditions, not a specification for every production batch.

Reading the teardown

I separate the hardware into four layers: power and heat, SoC/memory, firmware flash, and the radio/FEM section. This avoids shortcuts such as “a strong chip guarantees fast Wi-Fi” or “NAND means OpenWrt will install.” Auxiliary chips and heatsinks reveal design choices, but they do not replace real measurements of throughput, latency, or temperature.

HomeLab implications

For an always-on router, power delivery, cooling, and radio firmware matter as much as the Wi-Fi standard on the box. For firmware research, verify the boot chain, console, flash layout, calibration partitions, and actual support status. Do not flash a device just because its SoC looks familiar.

Limits

This is an independent analysis based on the teardown, not a new AIoT measurement. Revisions, PCBs, FEMs, flash, and firmware can differ between batches. I do not rehost ACWiFi assets or use this article to claim performance or OpenWrt support.
