LG-8T2XS-300P: a 300 W 2.5G PoE switch with RTL9302D

The LG-8T2XS-300P is a Layer 3 managed switch aimed at a rack: eight 2.5G ports, two 10G SFP+ slots, and a 300 W total PoE budget. It is interesting for a HomeLab with several APs, but PoE figures must be read per port and against the available power supply.1

Ports, power, and cooling

Four 2.5G ports support 802.3bt up to 90 W per port; the other four support 802.3at up to 30 W per port. The internal supply is 300 W, weighs about 430 g, and the 320×207×45 mm chassis includes rack ears.1

The switch uses a four-wire temperature-controlled fan; it runs fast at startup and then stops or adjusts its speed. The underside of the board has five thermal pads, including large pads for the switch chip and the two SFP+ modules.1

Power is about 7.9 W idle, 11.1 W with four 2.5G ports connected, 14.4 W with all eight 2.5G ports connected, and 17.8 W with two 10G modules and the fan at low speed. These are AC measurements for the tested states, not PoE output added directly to the same number.1

Chip platform and practical meaning

The switch chip is a Realtek RTL9302D, which the source describes as supporting up to 24 2.5G PHYs and two 10G links with Layer 3 management. Two RTL8224N chips serve the eight 2.5G PHYs; RTL8231 controls port LEDs; the W25Q128JVSQ flash is 16 MB.1

The PoE section uses RTL8238C for four 802.3at ports and RTL8239C for four 802.3bt ports. When an AP needs 90 W or features such as USB/PoE out, use the correct bt group and a supply with sufficient capacity; do not assume that every port has the same budget.1

The console connects through a MAX3232IPWR transceiver that converts TTL/CMOS to RS‑232. In practice, use the correct console cable and check the pinout rather than connecting a TTL UART directly to an RS‑232 port.1

Buying and operating implications

The sample exposes a web management system with per-port power information and scheduling for AP shutdown or reboot. The source's roughly 820 CNY price is historical and is not treated as a current price.1

Choose this switch when the need is genuinely eight 2.5G ports, 10G SFP+, and bt PoE. If only a few 30 W APs are involved, a smaller switch may be quieter and cheaper. The teardown does not replace throughput, long-term thermal, SFP+ compatibility, or revision-specific firmware testing.1
