Newifi3-D2 offers unusually strong hardware for its price: a dual-core, four-thread CPU and up to 512MB RAM. Its 2.4GHz Wi-Fi is not outstanding, but 5GHz performance is good, making it an interesting platform for custom firmware.

  • Default LAN IP, username, and password vary by firmware. Most Padavan builds use 192.168.123.1; OpenWrt and OpenWrt-based builds commonly use 192.168.1.1.

0. Stock firmware — xCloudOS

The factory firmware is called xCloudOS and uses Chinese by default. The English-language guide explains how to replace the language file.

Stock firmware has no default login password. Use the password created during initial setup. If the first-time setup does not start after flashing, hold Reset and configure the router again.
  • The original .RAR archive contains a Newifi3 D2 EEPROM backup and stock firmware.

  • A SPI-NAND dump is available here . It can help recover a router with a damaged bootloader when written with a CH341A or T48 programmer.

I. OpenWrt

OpenWrt is updated regularly and has strong community support. However, the mt76 driver may cause unstable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi or disconnections on some Newifi revisions.

Use the OpenWrt firmware selector , search for Newifi D2, and click SYSUPGRADE.

II. X-WRT

X-WRT is based on OpenWrt and adds usability features. It is reported to run stably on Newifi3 D2, possibly because of its driver and customization choices.

  • Direct links are not maintained because X-WRT updates frequently. Visit the X-WRT download page and search for newifi-d2.
  • Default IP: 192.168.15.1
  • Default Wi-Fi: X-WRT_XXXX, password 88888888
  • Default login: root/admin

III. GoCloud

  • GoCloud uses two file types: .bin for Breed Bootloader and .web.bin for the GoCloud web interface.
  • If the router is running another firmware, first flash GOCLOUD-Nwifi3刷机专用底包.bin through Breed, then use the GoCloud interface for .web.bin files.
  • The Google Drive collection contains WEB and BREED + EEPROM directories.
  • Versions 4.9 and 5.2 are available; 5.2 has a redesigned interface.

  • Changes include application shunting, policy routing, VPN-interface DMZ, improved cloud joining, terminal detection, Speedtest, multi-line shunting fixes, and mobile-layout fixes.

IV. Padavan

Padavan is popular because its interface is simple, Wi-Fi is stable, and many Chinese and Russian developers publish variants with ad blocking, proxy, and VPN features. Reset the configuration in Breed when switching between builds if old settings cause conflicts.

VI. Gargoyle

Gargoyle is a free OpenWrt-based distribution focused on bandwidth monitoring and per-IP bandwidth quotas. It also supports SMB/CIFS storage sharing, VPN server/client, Tor, ad blocking, Wi-Fi schedules, QoS, and hostname/IP blocklists.

VII. Wive-NG-MT

Wive-NG-MT is an open-source embedded operating system for MT7620/MT7621 routers. It focuses on stability, security fixes, newer drivers, and integrated MediaTek HW_NAT.

Tomato Phoenix is a free third-party firmware for MediaTek routers, including MT7620, MT7621, MT7628, and MT7688. It focuses on stability, multi-platform support, QoS, remote management, multilingual support, and DTU integrations.

This firmware is outdated. Flashing it means accepting the risk. The default language may be Chinese, although English is available in settings.

XIV. JIKE-GECOOS

  • AP is the access point; AC is the controller that manages APs.
  • AP243P firmware can be shared with Newifi. Match AP and AC major versions, such as 8.0.x with 8.0.x or AP243P 7.1 with AP243P 7.1.

iWifi is intended for public Wi-Fi stations with voucher sales, coin operation, and additional portal-management features. It has both free and paid editions.

  • Local admin panel and onboard AP.
  • NGROK access, traffic shaping, CSS portal customization.
  • Game-port priority, prepaid tickets, VLAN, remote cashbox, domain/VPN blocking.
  • Anti-tethering through TTL manipulation, PIN assignments, customer chat, media player, and random-MAC synchronization.
  • Paid features include eLoading, charging station, bills payment, PisoNet server, water dispenser, and carwash timer.

These firmware builds were tested a long time ago, so the IP, username, or password may have changed. Search for the current credentials or contact me if login fails. Newifi3 D2 has many firmware choices; test carefully and use the one that best fits your needs.
